Accessibility statement
Last updated 2 November 2026
Backpocket should work for everyone who fills in application forms. Here's what we do, what we know isn't right yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, across this website and the Backpocket app.
Make it work your way
In the app, under Settings, then Look, you can:
- Switch to a dyslexia-friendly font.
- Make the text larger.
- Use dark mode, or match your device.
- Choose a high-contrast theme.
What we've done
- Keyboard. Backpocket is built to work with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a "Skip to content" link on every page. Cards on the application board can be moved with the keyboard or with Move buttons, not just by dragging.
- Screen readers. Pages use proper headings, landmarks and labels, and icon-only buttons have names.
- Colour contrast. Every theme, light and dark, is checked automatically each time we change the code: text must reach a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, and buttons and focus rings at least 3:1.
- Motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations are switched off.
- Plain English. We write in short sentences and avoid jargon.
What we know isn't perfect
- We haven't had an independent accessibility audit yet. Our checks are our own, with automated tools, a keyboard and a screen reader. We plan to get an audit as Backpocket grows.
- Payments and Google sign-in happen on pages run by Stripe and Google. They have their own accessibility statements.
Tell us if something doesn't work
If anything on Backpocket is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email hello@backpocket.pro. Tell us the page and what happened, and we'll reply within 5 working days. Where we can, we'll fix it, and we'll help you get done what you were trying to do in the meantime.
If you're not happy with our reply, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service.
