Terms of service

The agreement between you and Backpocket, in plain English. By creating an account you agree to these terms.

1. Who we are

Backpocket is run by Cyde Enterprises (“we”, “us”). These terms, our privacy policy and our refund policy make up the agreement between us.

2. Your account

• You need to be 13 or over to use Backpocket. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to pay for it.
• Keep your sign-in secure. You're responsible for what happens in your account.
• One account per person. Accounts are personal and can't be shared or sold.

3. Plans

• Trial. New accounts get 14 days of Pro for free, with no card needed. To keep the trial fair it has its own generous limits on how much you can add.
• Free. After the trial, you move to the free plan unless you subscribe. It includes one mode, 10 applications, 10 answers, 15 stories and 2 files.
• Pro. A paid monthly or annual subscription with everything unlocked.
• Keep everything. If you go over a limit, or your trial or subscription ends, nothing is hidden, locked or deleted. You just can't add new items beyond your plan's limit until you upgrade or make room.

4. Paying for Pro

• Prices are shown before you pay, in pounds or dollars depending on where you are. UK prices include VAT; elsewhere, any sales tax is added at checkout.
• Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe, which may act as the reseller of your subscription. Your receipt and bank statement may name Stripe or its Link service.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. You can cancel any time in Settings, under Plan, then Manage billing. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
• If we change a price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it affects you, and it only applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before then.
• Refunds work as set out in our refund policy. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

5. Your content

• Everything you write or upload is yours. You give us permission to store it, show it back to you and process it only as needed to run Backpocket, including sharing with your crew exactly what you choose to share.
• We don't use your content to train AI, and we don't sell it.
• Backpocket organises your own words. It doesn't write, check or guarantee your applications. You're responsible for what you submit to employers, universities and funders.

6. Hunt Buddies

• Be kind. Crews are for encouragement: no harassment, abuse, spam or sharing anyone's details without their permission.
• You decide what each crew sees, item by item, and you can leave a crew at any time.
• We may remove someone from a crew, or close a crew, if these terms are broken.

7. Fair use

Please don't:

• break the law, or use Backpocket to store anything illegal or anything you don't have the right to store;
• try to get into other people's accounts or data, or get around plan limits or security;
• overload, scrape, reverse-engineer or interfere with the service;
• resell Backpocket or use it to build a competing product.

8. The service

• We work hard to keep Backpocket running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of bugs. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
• Reminders are there to help, not a guarantee. Always keep track of important deadlines yourself; we're not responsible for a missed deadline.
• We add, change and sometimes remove features as Backpocket grows. If we take away something important that you've paid for, we'll give you notice and, where it's fair, a refund for the time left.

9. Ending the agreement

• You can stop using Backpocket at any time, and delete your account in Settings. Deleting your account is permanent.
• We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Unless it's urgent or illegal, we'll warn you first and give you the chance to take a copy of your data.

10. Liability

• Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
• Otherwise, we're not liable for losses that weren't foreseeable, for business losses, or for the outcome of any application, and our total liability to you is limited to what you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
• If you're a consumer, you have legal rights in relation to services that aren't provided with reasonable care and skill. These terms don't affect them.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For significant changes we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect; if you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account before then.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts. If you live outside the UK, you keep any protections your local consumer law gives you.
